Shirakami mountain range
(Approx. 30 minutes from IWAKISO by car)

Mountain forest extending across the prefectural border between Aomori and Akita, and registered as a World Heritage site in 1993. Primeval forest of beech trees offers an invigorating and magnificent sight.

“Joyful train” runs on the Gono Line connecting Aomori Prefecture and Akita Prefecture. Enjoy the beautiful scenery including the Shirakami-Sanchi mountain range from your train window and also enjoy live music of the Tsugaru shamisen in the event space on the train.

In Hirosaki City
(Approx. 30 minutes from IWAKISO by car)

Hirosaki Park is famous and is known for its Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival. Former samurai residences from the Edo period and western style architecture from the Meiji period in the city are preserved. In addition, Hirosaki City is full of sightseeing spots such as Hirosaki Castle and Saishoin Temple, a five-story pagoda.


Ajigasawa and Fukaura
(Approx. 1 hour from IWAKISO by car)

Ajigasawa is the original site of the Tsugaru Domain and a famous historical crossing point for Kitamae boats during the Edo period. Enjoy the sunset over the Sea of Japan. Fukaura town is located next to the World Natural Heritage site, Shirakami-Sanchi mountain range is known for its twelve lakes, and “Blue Lake” is known for its beauty as though it were filled with blue ink.

Destination starting point for Tsugaru peninsula. Seashore beauty and nature surrounding thirteen lakes and historic romance and stories of Ando suigun and Minamoto no Yoshitsune including Shayokan.


In Aomori City
(Approx. 1 and a half hour from IWAKISO by car)

Historic and cultural town home of the Sannai-Maruyama Site (remains of the largest Jomon settlement in Japan), Nebuta and Aomori Prefecture Tourist Center (ASPM).


Mt. Hakkoda
(Approx. 1 and a half hour from IWAKISO by car)

Dormant volcanoes with peaks reaching 1,500m located in the center of Aomori. Tender spring and summer green, autumn leaves, soft rime and skiing for enjoyment of all four seasons.

Lake Towada
(Approx. two hours from IWAKISO by car)

Lake known as a double caldera lake, and Oirase stream of approximately 14km flowing from the lake. The landscapes of the four seasons are beautiful.


Shimokita peninsula
(Approx. 3 and a half hours from IWAKISO by car)

Features a shape called the axe of Shimokita Channel. Osorezan and scenic beauty spots are scattered along the seashore on the northern end of Honshu.
